FAQ

1q. Is your music “royalty-free”?

1a. This is a somewhat misleading term. Our licensing agreement is fairly straightforward. Before you license a song from our catalog, you specify what the usage of that song will be. If, for example, you are producing a video game for the Nintendo DS, the fee you pay us covers all usage for the song(s) of your choice in that particular usage. You do not have to pay any royalty out of the sales of your game, for example. Likewise, if you choose to use one of our songs for a TV show, you pay one license fee for the right to use it in that TV show (within a particular territory, for a particular term) as much as you want without paying us any additional fees.

What we do require is for you to fill out cue sheets for any public performance usage, such as TV broadcasts or film usage outside of the United States. When you fill out and file cue sheets to the proper Performing Rights Organization, you may be required to pay royalties to those organizations. We are not involved in this process, and this procedure is common to virtually all music libraries.

The other exception to the “royalty-free” term is using a song you have licensed from us for a different purpose than the one you stated when purchasing the license. In other words, if you purchase a license to use a song in an internet podcast, you may use the song in that podcast as much as you want, but you cannot then use the same song in an entirely different podcast. If you are unsure whether a usage is legitimate under our licensing agreement, simply contact us anytime and we’d be happy to help.

2q. Do you provide edits of your music?

2a. The majority of tracks in our catalog can be edited to fit your needs. Just send us an email and describe what sort of edits or alternate mixes you may need.

3q. Can I edit your music?

3a. Yes, absolutely. The only restrictions are that you only use the music for the purpose you purchased it for, and that you file the proper cue sheets where necessary.

4q. Does your music use samples? Do I need to worry about the legality of it?

4a. Not at all. When you purchase a license from us, you can rest-assured that every sound was properly cleared and every performer involved was properly compensated. We make sure everything is done by the book here.

5q. Can you write custom music, stingers, jingles or beds for my production?

5a. Yes. Visit our Custom Music page for more information.

6q. Do you offer any sort of discounts for multiple licenses or returning customers?

6a. Yes. Contact us and tell us what you’re looking for and we can make special arrangements whether you’re a newcomer or a longtime licensee.

7q. Do you offer subscriptions to your entire library?

7a. Yes, we offer monthly and yearly subscriptions to access to our entire catalog (cue sheets must still be filed for public performance usage.) Contact us and provide us with some details about your anticipated usage and needs, and we can provide you with an accurate, competitive quote.
